Country Mike's Hauraki Hoedown Playlist
Here is the playlist for Country Mike’s Hauraki Hoedown on Beach Radio for Monday July 31st, 2006.
After chucking in my two "9" songs following Bob's weekly 'bobcast' I did an small run of war songs and got on just a little bit of a soapbox about what's happening in Lebanon. There's a lot that could go in here obviously, but I was afraid it might get a bit much so just did a handfull or so. War songs in the country vein seem to line up along a sort of trad / alt line with the traditional musicians often presenting a kind of pro-war / american nationalism / "support our boys over there" type of sentiment vs the alt-country conscious anti-war message, best reflected in this small set by Steve Earle and the one by Wilco. Might have another crack at this later in the month. Here's the playlist ...
Nine by Nine - John Dummers Famous Music Band
Nineteen - Old 97's
Country Mike's Theme - Beastie Boys
See Willy Fly By - the Waco Brothers
Rest of our Lives - Mike Ness
Long Walk Back to San Antone - Junior Brown
Revolution Starts ... - Steve Earle
Girl in the War - Josh Ritter
Centre for Holy Wars - the New Pornographers
The War Between the States - Austin Lounge Lizards
Condi Condi - Steve Earle
War on War - Wilco
Warrior - Steve Earle + Gettysburg Address - Johnny Cash
Slightest Shift in the Weather - Phoenix Foundation
Song of the Shrimp - Frank Black
Franks Wild Years - Tom Waits
Hello Walls - Willie Nelson
Hungry Eyes - Merle Haggard
Loserville - Freakwater
One Morning - Gillian Welch
Swallows - Knife in the Water
3.2 Flu - Split Lip Rayfield
Gravitys Gone - Drive-by Truckers
Hidden Superstition - Grace Potter & the Nocturnals
Black Horse & the Cherry Tree - K T Tunstall
Long Haired Child - Devendra Banhart
Evita's Lullaby - Alejandro Escovedo
I Hate These Songs - Dale Watson & His Lonestars
Hold On Hold On - Neko Case
1,000,001 - Kelly Hogan
The Maker - Martha Wainwright
Lonely I Be - Steve Abel
